Sustainability
Security and protection is in our fabric, and this extends to our company ethos. At Sunfish, we strive to become as sustainable as possible, implementing measures that care for the environment, improve the wellbeing of our people and support the community.

Sunfish & Sustainability
What makes a sustainable business?
There are three pillars to consider when considering sustainability:
- Environmental
- Social
- Economic
What are the benefits of a sustainable business?
- Improves efficiency
- Motivates employees
- Meeting and exceeding client requirements
- Cost reductions
Environmental Sustainability
We understand that to become a more sustainable business, we need to take action. We have already implemented a number of changes to reduce our carbon footprint and become more aware of our impact on the environment.
Measures we have already taken include:
- We have achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification, and are engaged with consultancy to assist and advise on both best practice and looking for new avenues to assist us in achieving Net Zero carbon emissions.
- Reusing and recycling all packaging.
- Switching to 100% recyclable tape rather than plastic for packaging, and biodegradable document pockets.
- Elimination of non-reusable plastic from the office, and reduction in printing.
- Migration of vehicle fleet from petrol and diesel to electric.
- Reduction in face-to-face meetings and site visits, opting for online meetings.
- Quarterly environmental meetings to review and improve our progress.
- LED lighting installed in all office spaces.
- All waste is disposed of in accordance with guidelines, including WEEE, fire extinguishers, and batteries.
Measures we are working towards include:
- Continued migration of the petrol and diesel fleet over to fully electric vehicles. We aim to have a fully electric fleet by 2030.
- Regular reviews of our Carbon Reduction Policy.
- Offset unavoidable business travel and carbon emissions.
- Optimise stock holdings and part shipments to reduce the quantity of individual shipments.

Social Sustainability
We are proud to invest in the wider community, building relationship with those in local areas as well as our customers.
In 2025 we were the main sponsors of Platform Housing‘s Charity Bike Ride in aid of the NSPCC.
We also sponsored Platform Housing’s Community Heroes Awards, celebrating those who go above and beyond to make a difference within their communities.
We are happy to be sponsors of Melbourne Art & Architecture Trail. The initiative strives to provide artistic outlets for all members of the community, including children and the elderly. Through the Arts Festival we support workshops in local schools to help nurture creativity as well as building an awareness and understanding of sustainability. Workshops are also provided for young children aged between 2 and 5 and the elderly community within the village as a social outlet.
In 2024 we provided the Creative Melbourne Gallery with new fire extinguishers and a security system to support the wellbeing and safety needs of staff and volunteers of the gallery.
Supporting local businesses is key to creating a strong community, and we are keen to continue doing so. We are currently looking into other local charities and not-for-profit organisations that we can support, whether that be financially through donations or through voluntary work.
Our People
We are happy to be supporting Skills for Security apprenticeships to encourage and help individuals develop the skills they need for a rewarding career in the UK’s private security sector. We are currently taking on apprentices for the Level 3 Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician course.
Recruiting apprentices means we can support young people in the early stages of their career as well as those who are older and looking for a career change.
Employee satisfaction is a priority for us, and we want our staff to feel like they have the ability to grow and improve within their role. To achieve this, we provide up-skilling courses to improve knowledge and skill. Applying this has meant a number of our employees have grown within the company, whether from a junior role to a senior position, or switching departments as a result of their new skills. The result of this is improved self-esteem and satisfaction for individuals as well as improved service for the company.
