Fire Safety Tips:

  • Never leave the hob unattended when cooking. Turn the hob off when not in use or when you need to step away.
  • Keep the hob clean to avoid a build up of oil and grease and reduce risk of fire.
  • Ensure you do not leave tea towels, cloths, clothing or any other fabric near the hob as it may catch fire.
  • Do not cook if you are under the influence of alcohol.
  • Supervise children at all times.

In the event of a fire, remain calm and act fast:

Stop: Stop cooking immediately.

Drop: If your clothing has caught fire, drop to the floor to prevent the flames spreading.

Roll: Roll on the ground to smother the flames.

DO NOT try to put out an oil fire with water as this can aggravate the fire.

If a fire occurs and you are unable to extinguish it safely by yourself, evacuate immediately and call the fire brigade on 999. Ensure everyone in the property knows the escape route.
