Does your property need CCTV?
It’s no surprise that commercial and domestic CCTV is becoming increasingly popular. It’s one of the most effective ways to protect your property, be it your home or business, from potential burglaries, and capture potential evidence, as well as providing peace of mind.
In today’s post, we’re answering some of our most frequently asked questions about CCTV.
Can I install CCTV for my home?
Yes – CCTV can be installed in domestic properties. They are effective deterrents against burglars, and provide peace of mind when you are away from home.
It is important to consider the placement of your CCTV cameras to ensure they align with the correct regulations. If your CCTV captures images outside of your personal premises, for example the road or a neighbour’s garden, GDPR and the UK’s Data Protection Act will apply.
What is the difference between a Network Video Recorder (NVR) and a Digital Video Recorder (DVR)?
Network Video Recorder (NVR)
A Network Video Recorder, or NVR, is a complete IP camera recording device. It includes a computer and special Video Management Software (VMS). VMS is required for recording video, but it also allows multiple viewers to monitor real-time and recorded video.
NVR’s have a higher storage capacity than DVR.
Digital Video Recorder (DVR)
The DVR or Digital Video Recorder is a device that records video from analogue cameras to one or more hard drives. The term DVR is also used by the consumer TV market.
The DVR used in the security market has a fixed number of connections to attach cameras. DVRs are available with 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 channels, or connections. This means that you have a maximum number of cameras that can be supported by one unit. Once you exceed the number of connections available on that particular DVR, you will need to add another DVR to your system.
Should I get an NVR or DVR?
This is dependent on what you require for your security system. For advice, call us on 01332 865091.
NVR’s are more adaptable and suitable for large scale properties, which makes them ideal for businesses. If you’re looking to protect your home, a DVR may be more suitable.
Access from mobile devices
Many CCTV systems allow you to monitor the cameras from a mobile device. This allows you to keep an eye on your property even when you’re not there. Should an incident occur, you can react quickly and efficiently.
How much does a CCTV system cost?
This is dependent on multiple factors, such as the scale of the project, the size of your property, and the type of equipment used. For a free, no-obligation quote, click here.
